Organisation for Economic Co-operation and Development, OECD for short, has a data on 38 countries regarding current and projected life expectancy.
Current life expectancy is based on year 2022 data, projected life expectancy estimates years to live in year 2065.
I use PowerBI and dumbbell chart to visualize the data. One dumbbell chart provide few insights on year 2022 such as :
- Country with longest life expectancy – that is Japan
- Clearly shows the difference in life expectancy between female and male – female live longer
- Countries with less then average life expectancy -for example Estonia
- Countries with biggest difference in life expectancy between female and male – Lithuania
I think dumbbell chart is undervalued and underutilized, considering that it provides a way to explore data as well as to get quick overview.
